I Am Sober is a mobile and web-based app designed to support individuals in maintaining sobriety and managing addiction recovery, using principles of daily commitment and community support. Though mainly focused on Alcohol, the app also supports those recovering from other substance use disorders. I am Sober features a sobriety tracker which allows users to track exactly how long they have been sober, and visualize financial savings accrued from not purchasing substances. Users are encouraged to write a daily pledge stating why they will stay sober today, and can also track relapses and sobriety streaks. The app provides a progress review over time, in order to help users identify triggers. The community section allows users to interact with peers who are at similar recovery stages, with the aims of reducing isolation and providing a network for shared experiences and empathy. Users can share their own story, comment on other’s post and follow user’s profiles. The app also provides workbooks, which are short modules with some information and guiding questions of different themes (e.g. learn from your past, self assessment, improve your environment), which may help users understand themselves and their addiction better. Additional features include motivational section with motivation quotes, an option to connect the app with rehab center/group, and availability of different languages. While many features are available at no cost, a paid subscription provides access to a wider range of content.
Clinicians can recommend this app to patients as a tool that complements both behavioral therapies and medication-assisted treatment. The app's tracking features and community support can enhance motivation. Clinicians might also use the app’s data to discuss triggers and coping strategies during therapy sessions.
