Breathe Better is a web-based program intended to help users quit smoking. To begin the program, users complete a survey that contains questions about their smoking history, their triggers to smoke, their desire to quit, and what they think would be helpful in the process of quitting. The program then features 3 modules that can be completed at the user’s own pace; all content is presented as text. The first module, “Getting Yourself Ready”, provides users with information about quitting that is relevant to their addiction level. For example, for low addiction levels, this section may focus on the emotional, psychological, and behavioral side of the smoking habit, whereas for higher addiction levels, this section may inform users about nicotine replacement products, such as patches or gum. The second module, “Creating a Quit Plan”, provides specific recommendations and information addressing the user’s triggers to smoke, and suggests resources that would be helpful in quitting. The last module, “Living Smoke Free”, provides users with tips and recommendations on how to stay smoke free. A health coach phone line – to be used in select areas across the US – is also available.
