Brighter Bite is a mobile app designed to manage and promote recovery from different types of eating disorders. The app incorporates principles from Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Dialectic Behavior Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, all approaches which emphasize nurturing a healthier thinking process and dealing with unconstructive thoughts. Brighter Bite’s main feature is its coping chat, where users can share their current feeling and access a coping practice aimed at dealing with difficult thoughts or urges. Other core feature is the app’s trackers: a food diary, where users can track their daily meals and eating behavior (restricted, binged, etc.); a diary of thoughts and feelings that emerged while eating; and a mood diary to help users track their emotions and possible reasons for their feelings. In addition, Brighter Bite offers a variety of psychoeducational content, providing information about different types of eating disorders and possible treatments. The app also provides links to self-help books and videos, references to treatment resources and a self-assessment test. Brighter Bite is available for free, making it accessible to a broad audience.
